There’s a battle being fought in South Texas. On one side is the cattle fever tick. On the frontline of the offensive fight are local, state and national agencies, associations and landowners working to eradicate the costly pest.

NRCS is one agency working in partnership with these individuals and groups in a statewide fever tick initiative.

Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative


Congress established the Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI) to enhance cooperative conservation on agriculture and nonindustrial private forest lands. The voluntary initiative provides financial and technical assistance to landowners that work together to address regional conservation concerns.

Floodwater Damages Prevented With Help from New Flood Control Dam in Elm Creek (Cen-Tex) Watershed


During the recent torrential rainfall in Milam and Bell counties in October, a new dam within the Elm Creek (Cen-Tex) Watershed recently constructed by USDA-NRCS and local sponsors helped prevent the possibility of floodwater damages.

Ellis County Gets Dam Repairs Started from Recovery Act Funding


The USDA-NRCS is using Recovery Act funding for repairs to five flood control dams in Ellis County utilizing $5.78 million within the Sub-Watersheds of the Trinity River.
