The Kika de la Garza Plant Materials Center
selects conservation plants and develops new vegetative
technology for the 27 million acres that make up South Texas. To
date, the Center’s releases include
Falfurrias Germplasm big sacaton and Lavaca Germplasm Canada
wildrye. The Center provides technical
assistance to restore Gulf Coast prairie and the associated salt
marshes, enhance waterbird habitat,
revegetate areas disturbed by mining and oil field exploration,
and improve range and pasture lands. |
