Message from the Texas State Conservationist
Dr. Larry D. Butler
Welcome to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the
Texas NRCS Website. The natural resources of soil, water, air, plants and
animals form the cornerstone of our conservation heritage. It is the legacy of
our Texas landscape.
NRCS is the federal agency that works with landowners and managers of private
lands to conserve natural resources. The owners and managers of private lands,
through good stewardship and the voluntary approach to the conservation
movement, provide all Texans with multiple environmental benefits such as
cleaner water, improved air quality, less soil erosion, better plant and animal
health, and a quality environment.
NRCS is known for its people, trained in many and varied natural resource
sciences and technologies in numerous technical disciplines. We will continue
our commitment to providing well-trained, highly qualified employees to assist
landowners and resource managers implement conservation across the landscape of
Texas.
Success lies in the ability to form lasting partnerships. This includes
working with individuals, soil and water conservation districts, units of
government, conservation organizations, environmental groups, community based
organizations, tribes, commodity and producer associations, universities,
professional organizations, and other agencies. NRCS will work to build and
maintain lasting partnerships to facilitate solving the many issues facing
resource management.
A great trust has been placed on NRCS to handle a massive investment in
conservation. We take this seriously. We will carry out our responsibilities
with fairness and openness. We will be accountable in all our conservation
activities and agency roles. Please take time to share your concerns and tell
us how we can work together to provide effective, efficient conservation
assistance.
