Community Assessment

Helping rural communities with an effective, low-cost community assessment process is a major project of the Leon Bosque RC&D Area. Community leaders in Comanche, Texas, and members of a Rural Resource Team toured the community. These assessments help communities identify problems and challenges, strengths and assets, and projects that they would like to address in the future.

Problems identified included leadership development and a need for downtown revitalization for more business. As a result of the community assessment, Comanche has been selected to participate in the Texas Main Street City Program. The Comanche Economic Development Corporation has constructed a building to be made available to new business prospects.

Team members come from state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector. Assessments utilizing Rural Resource Teams are being conducted across the state by RC&D Councils in partnership with Texas Rural Partners, Inc.
