Community Clean-Up

McCulloch County residents no longer need to display broken down washers, dryers, and refrigerators as lawn ornaments. Instead, through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Texas County Clean-Up Program, many of the residents of the county have taken advantage of getting rid of their inoperable appliances. These cleanups not only offer residents recycling opportunities usually found only in larger cities, but are necessary because many rural residents generate specific types of agricultural solid waste. Approximately 225 tons of recycled material was collected from this cleanup.

Local coordination and cosponsors of the project were the McCulloch County Commissioners Court, Texas Cooperative Extension, and Concho Valley RC&D Council. Other partners were the Lower Colorado River Authority, Texas Department of Agriculture, and McCulloch County Sheriff’s Offender Services. TCEQ provided a grant for the promotion of the event.
