North and South Llano

Objective:

EQIP funds will be used to support brush control efforts in selected watersheds. Efforts will focus on cost share for initial and follow-up brush control by local cooperators. Portions of the following counties are included in the North and South Llano Priority Area: Sutton, Kimble, Edwards and Real.

Water Quantity/Brush Management

Primary Area of Concern:

  • Brush Management on Cedar– Redberry and Ashe Juniper -all approved methods in North & South Llano Watersheds. - High Priority

  • Brush Management on Mesquite, Willow Baccharis and Prickly Pear– all approved methods in North & South Llano Watersheds. - Medium Priority

  • Eligible Practices:

  • Brush Management (314)
  • Range Planting (550)
  • Fence (382)
  • Watering Facility (614)
  • Water Well (642)
  • Pipeline (516)
  • Prescribed Burning (338)
  • Prescribed Grazing (528A)

  • Cost Share Rates:

    Limited Resource Farmer/ Producer - 90 percent
    Beginning Farmer/ Rancher - 50 percent
    All other categories - 50 percent

    Incentive:

    Prescribed Grazing - $5/Ac/Yr
    Includes All Pastures in the grazing rotation.
    Maximum of 3 payments.

    Ranking Criteria:

    Brush Management Points
    Brush Management >50 % canopy 100 points
    Brush Management 30% - 49% canopy 75 points
    Brush Management 11% - 29% canopy 50 points
    Prescribed Burning Following Brush Management 10 points
    Species  
    Cedar (Redberry and Ashe juniper) 100 points
    Mesquite 75 points
    Willow Baccharis 50 points
    Prickly Pear 50 points
    Score: (Brush management + Prescribed Burning + Species) ________

  • 75% of total contract dollars must address the High Priority Concern – does not apply to acres of Brush Management. Range seeding following brush management is the exception.

  • Facilitating practices:
     
    • Range planting
    • Fencing
    • Water development and/or pipelines
    • Prescribed burning

    Instructions for Completing Ranking Worksheet:
     

    • When more than one species of brush is being treated, the predominate acres to be treated will determine the priority and points awarded.
    • Can have multiple item contracts
    • Applications without Brush Management will be ranked with 0 points.
    • Raking and stacking will not be cost shared.
    • 10 extra points are awarded to those who are following brush management with prescribed burning.
    • When chaining is selected for brush management, it must be followed with prescribed burning.
