EQIP Program in Orange County

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
offers cost share assistance to agricultural producers to implement
on-farm conservation practices. The Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) determines eligible producers for the EQIP program and
determines eligible land. Eligible producers may apply for cost share
assistance on conservation practices that will address the identified
resource concern identified by the Local Work Group (LWG).
Interested agricultural producers may apply in person at the
Orange County USDA Service Center. Applicants may also request
EQIP
assistance by telephone, fax, e-mail, or letter.
State Resource Concerns Priority Areas that include part of
Orange County:
Objective:
The objective of the 2006 EQIP program is to improve the natural resources of
Orange County by promoting the use of desirable conservation practices. Some of
the major resource concerns are water quality in bayous and control of invasive
species (Chinese Tallowtrees).
County EQIP Resource Concern:
The Local Work Group has identified Water Quality as being the top resource
concern in Orange County for cost share assistance in 2006. Increasing Water
Quantity and control of invasive species Chinese tallow will be addressed
through Statewide Resource Concerns.
Priority for Funding:
High - Conversion of cropland to pastureland
High - Conversion of cropland/Native Pastureland to Woodland
High - Improvement of degraded pastureland
Medium - Management of improved pastureland
Low - Other
Eligible Practices and Cost Share Rates:
Limited Resource Producers - 90 percent
Beginning Farmers/Ranchers - 50 percent
Others - 50 percent
State EQIP funds will be reserved for funding Limited Resource Producers.
Practices will be cost shared based on AC, AM, or FR.
AC - Average Cost - Cost share earned is the number of completed units
certified, multiplied by the specified cost, multiplied by the cost share
percentage.
AM - Actual Cost not to exceed a Maximum - Cost shared earned is the number of
completed units certified, multiplied by the actual cost of the practice not to
exceed the specified maximum, multiplied by the cost share percentage.
FR - Flat Rate
