EQIP Program in Camp County

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers cost share assistance to agricultural producers to implement on-farm conservation practices.  The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) determines eligible producers for the EQIP program and determines eligible land.  Eligible producers may apply for cost share assistance on conservation practices that will address the identified resource concern identified by the Local Work Group (LWG).

Interested agricultural producers may apply in person at the Camp County USDA Service Center. Applicants may also request EQIP assistance by telephone, Fax, e-mail, or letter.

Objective:

The objective of the Camp County EQIP Local Work Group (LWG) is to improve water quality, reduce non-point source pollution from animal waste and reduce soil erosion through sound use of conservation practices properly applied on the land. The Environmental Quality Incentive Program EQIP offers cost-share assistance to agricultural producers to implement on-the-land conservation practices.

County EQIP Resource Concern:

In the Camp County area the LWG has determined Water Quality to be the high priority resource concern. Animal waste management for poultry and dairy operations is the major emphasis. Vegetative conservation practices that will reduce soil erosion, sedimentation and improve water quality are also included.

Priority for Funding:

Priority for funding in Camp County for 2006 are first, water quality practices; secondly, soil erosion reduction practices; and lastly other practices that improve the environment. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will determine all land eligible for the program. Eligible producers may apply for cost share assistance on conservation practices that will address the identified resource concern determined by the Local Work Group LWG.

Limited Resource Farmers and Ranchers - 90 percent
Beginning Farmers and Ranchers - 80 percent
All others - 50 percent

Dry Stacks 313- Unit = square foot, average cost $15.38
Composter 317- Unit = number, average cost $15.38 per square foot
Freezers 316- Unit = number, average cost $1801.00 per unit
Incinerator/Pad 317- Unit = number, average cost $10500.00 per unit
Lagoons 359- Unit = cubic yard, average cost $1.85 per cubic yard
Sprinkler 634 - Unit = number, average cost $7500.00
Pipeline 634 - Unit = linear feet, average cost $7.75
Pumps 533- Unit = number, average cost $8500.00
Power Source 533- Unit = number, average cost $10,000.00

1. Average cost for seed/sprigs, seedbed preparation, and seeding operation = $190.00 per acre
2. Average cost for nutrient management 590 is $0.35 per pound for fertilizer - $22.00 per ton for litter and $22.00 per ton for lime establishment only
3.  Average cost for pest management 595 is $18.00 per Acre

Application Screening/Ranking Criteria were set as follows - Animal waste is priority no.1 - vegetative management is no.2 - and all other requests are priority no.3

1. Vegetative plantings will be limited to 100 acres per application contract
2. Fencing will be valued as medium priority when used with pasture planting.
