Range Stewardship and Stockmanship Clinic

August 27, 2009, Ranching clinics focusing on range stewardship and effective stockmanship, including low stress cattle handling methods will be hosted in Edna, Texas at the Brackenridge Park Main Event Center on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, and in Corsicana, Texas at the Navarro County Expo Center on Friday, September 25, 2009. Both clinics will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at approximately 3:30 p.m.

“This clinic will provide valuable information on grazing land management and address the current drought situation, as well as other issues and topics important to ranch management and beef production,” says Stephen Diebel, chairman of the Coastal Prairies Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI), and member of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

Respected stockmanship instructors Curt Pate, 2007, 2008 and 2009 AQHA Clinician of the year, and Dr. Ron Gill, a Texas AgriLife Extension Service Specialist, will demonstrate stockmanship principles through low stress cattle handling methods. The men incorporate their lifelong ranching and horsemanship experience into the program that focuses on the increased economic and environmental benefits of handling stock correctly.

Representatives from the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Texas AgriLife Extension will also discuss grazing management principles from beef cattle to horse operations. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and Texas Animal Health Commission representatives will provide information on animal health issues.
