Range Stewardship and Stockmanship Clinic
August 27, 2009, Ranching clinics focusing on range stewardship and effective
stockmanship, including low stress cattle handling methods will be hosted in
Edna, Texas at the Brackenridge Park Main Event Center on Wednesday, September
23, 2009, and in Corsicana, Texas at the Navarro County Expo Center on Friday,
September 25, 2009. Both clinics will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at
approximately 3:30 p.m.
“This clinic will provide valuable information on grazing land management and
address the current drought situation, as well as other issues and topics
important to ranch management and beef production,” says Stephen Diebel,
chairman of the Coastal Prairies Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI),
and member of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and National
Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
Respected stockmanship instructors Curt Pate, 2007, 2008 and 2009 AQHA Clinician
of the year, and Dr. Ron Gill, a Texas AgriLife Extension Service Specialist,
will demonstrate stockmanship principles through low stress cattle handling
methods. The men incorporate their lifelong ranching and horsemanship experience
into the program that focuses on the increased economic and environmental
benefits of handling stock correctly.
Representatives from the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and
Texas AgriLife Extension will also discuss grazing management principles from
beef cattle to horse operations. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
Association (TSCRA) and Texas Animal Health Commission representatives will
provide information on animal health issues.

$25 per person, or $40 per couple, and includes lunch and a grazing lands
stewardship manual.

Registration is $10 per person and includes a charcoal grilled steak for lunch.
