Texas AgriLife Extension Honors NRCS Employee
Temple, Texas – February 11, 2008. Lee Knox, rangeland management specialist for the USDA Natural
Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Abilene, Texas, was recognized as the
Taylor County Outstanding Extension Cooperator of the Year in Agriculture for
2007.
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service Taylor County Leadership Advisory Board
recognized Knox for his leadership and service as the chairperson of the Taylor
County Agriculture Committee. “Lee is a great supporter of the educational
programs of the region,” said Gary Bomar, Taylor County Ag Extension agent, now
retired. “Taylor County is fortunate to have Lee as a citizen of the county.”
A former county Extension agent, Knox has served as speaker and resource person
for many programs, including seminars conducted during the annual Farm and Ranch
Wildlife Expo, Food and Fiber Day during the West Texas Fair and Rodeo, Big
Country Master Naturalist trainings, and numerous continuing education
conferences.
“Lee’s dedication to his profession is reflected in his personal commitment and
in his many professional honors,” said Don Gohmert, NRCS state conservationist
for Texas. His awards include Texas Section of the Society for Range
Management’s Outstanding Young Professional, New Mexico State University Gamma
Sigma Delta, Outstanding Master of Science Student, and Texas County
Agricultural Agents Association District 10 Outstanding Young Agent.
