Sixty-Sixth Annual Texas Soil and Water Conservation District Directors Meeting Comes to Arlington

By Randy Henry, Public Affairs Specialist

The 66th Annual Texas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Directors Meeting was held in Arlington, Texas, on Oct. 23-25, 2006, providing a forum for SWCD directors and employees, conservation professionals, and other attendees the opportunity to examine relevant issues about the conservation of the state’s natural resources.

Many speakers from national, state and local agencies, groups and various levels of conservation management addressed state concerns, as well as a wide variety of agricultural and conservation topics. The annual meeting also had conservation tours of Lone Star Park and the Winscott Ranch, which are located in Grand Prairie and Cresson, Texas, respectively, to view native and managed pastures, along with describing the objectives of a ranch and how to achieve those objectives.

At the annual meeting, there were several exhibits focusing on conservation, including a booth sponsored by USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The booth provided information about soils in Texas, while educating attendees about the NRCS web soil survey.
