Sam Houston RC&D Awards Grants for Community Projects

By Kathy Dean, Public Affairs Specialist

The Sam Houston Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) recently held a ceremony to present grants to three organizations. Board members Carolyn Bilski and Charles Goeke, along with Jim Hluchan, NRCS district conservationist at Bellville, presented $500 matching grant checks to the recipients.

John Spiess accepted the grant money on behalf of the Industry Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department plans on purchasing equipment for their new fire station.

Philip Shackelford represented the Austin County Recycling Project. They plan to purchase equipment to sort and bale recyclable paper products.

Allen Kaminski from Sealy High School received the grant money. This money will help purchase greenhouse equipment for the vocational agriculture department and FFA.
