77th Texas FFA Convention

The 2005 Texas Future Farmers of America (FFA) convention was in held in Lubbock, July 12–15. Over 8,000 high school students were in attendance representing FFA chapters throughout the state.  USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) participated in the event, making contact with students and agriculture education instructors.  NRCS personnel presented information on the High School Female Recruitment Plan through the Texas Federal Women’s Program. Female students 16 and older have the opportunity to apply for summer employment while attending high school. This allows them to gain experience and to know the NRCS mission.

Agriculture instructors appreciated receiving a copy of the range management CD developed in Zone 1. This teaching tool provides them informational instruction to educate present and future generations of land managers on how to plan and apply practices for long-term sustainability of our native grazing lands.

NRCS was fortunate to gain visibility and reach high school age children through this event.
